A) Program Highlights

The Business School at AUL invites students into two years of leadership practice immersed in real-world challenges. Into a diverse community of colleagues and faculty reflecting a world of talents, beliefs, and backgrounds. Into an intense period of personal and professional transformation that prepares you for challenges in any functional area—anywhere in the Arab, the Middle East, and in the world.

To experience the MBA at AUL is to go inside the issues that matter—and to reach inside yourself for the strength, skills, and confidence you will develop to face them. In every case, class, event, and activity, you are asked not only to study leadership, total quality management (TQM), business research, and financial management, but to demonstrate all these talents. However, for the Management of Information Technology (MIT) major within the MBA program, the emphasis of course requirements is on courses that concentrate on efficiency in using most advanced techniques: managerial and computer related technology. Courses included in MIT major are: Supply Chain Management, Advanced Data Analysis, Intelligent Systems, Management Decision Support Systems, and the like. However, the MIT courses are not limited to the up mentioned courses. There are courses from the computer science area such as: Advanced Topics in Database, Advanced Software Engineering, New Topics in Artificial Intelligence, and other topics that pertain to most up to date technologies in this field.

The most realistic question that might matter to you, as a student, would be: "What difference will you make in the world?" This is how the AUL MBA makes a difference:

**Management across any function

Change is the one thing you can expect with certainty. That's why we have carefully designed the MBA Curriculum to help you develop a capacity for analysis, assessment, judgment, and action that you can exercise throughout the course of any career you choose to pursue.

**Learning in practice

It's one thing to learn a theory from lectures and textbooks. It's something else entirely to learn how to make decisions in the face of conflicting data, and intense time and fiscal pressures—then defend your choices among peers as motivated and intelligent as you are. That's exactly what you'll do at AUL MBA, case-method learning that puts you in the role of the decision maker. Field studies under faculty guidance take students to the frontiers of new markets, practices, and technologies across the globe.

**Learning in Practice

There are special moments that pull everything we have learned into focus. When theory, practice, experience and talent all come to one sharp point — a decision that shapes a definitive course of action. When it's no longer an issue of what can be done, but of what you will do.

Decisive moments define an AUL Business School education. Here, everything from real life to case studies, from field-based learning to international complications, culminates in one larger lesson — what it means to assume leadership within an ever-growing, ever-changing world.

Through case method courses, learning team discussions, and more, you exercise the leadership skills you will practice in business and beyond. The issues are complex, the stakes high, and the demands challenging. But as a result, you leave AUL with lessons in leadership that are practical, priceless and most importantly, real.

**The AUL-MBA Case Method in Action

One of the highlights of the AUL-MBA experience, the case method is a profound educational innovation that presents the greatest challenges confronting leading companies, nonprofits, and government organizations—complete with the constraints and incomplete information found in real business issues—and places the student in the role of the decision maker. There are no simple solutions; yet through the dynamic process of exchanging perspectives, countering and defending points, and building on each other's ideas, students become adept at analyzing issues, exercising judgment, and making difficult decisions.

Simply put, we believe the case method is the best way to prepare students for the challenges of leadership.

**Curriculum

The MBA Program curriculum is split into two different yet complementary learning experiences, and is offered in the evening to suit the schedule of working students:

The Required Curriculum forms the equivalent of one year of study and establishes a common foundation in the fundamental practices of business including finance, marketing, leadership, economics, operations, strategy, planning, decision making, and more. All students participate in the same set of classes within this part of the program. In addition to acquiring specific analytical and quantitative skills, students become accustomed to MBA Program standards of communication and collaboration, and develop strong, lasting relationships among themselves.

The Elective Curriculum follows the “Required Curriculum” breadth of experience with an opportunity for depth, breadth, or both: students choose from among 15 or more courses in about ten subject areas as well as field-based learning opportunities to gain a more concentrated expertise in the industries, functions, and ideas that interest them most. This part is equivalent to one semester.

The last semester in the program is left for the thesis work. After finishing all the course requirements, it is time for the MBA student to put all his/her theoretical ideas, case studies, field learning together into an integrated research work to demonstrate practical application of all these efforts into a final work: the thesis. The Individual Student Research work presents an opportunity for a student to study a specific topic of interest in depth under the close direction of a faculty member. In recent years, this learning experience has become more popular as students link independent field-based learning to their career planning and job search.

Field-based learning is a remarkable opportunity for students to truly personalize their education as they make connections and gain experience in their chosen fields.

The thesis accounts for one semester. However, many students take more than one semester to finish their theses.

C) Academic Preparation

Because AUL-MBA students bring a wide array of backgrounds and talents to the MBA Program, it is essential that they develop a common background of skills and terminology in key areas before they start class. To maximize the benefits of this diversity, students must have an understanding of accounting, finance, and quantitative methods before enrollment. Some students may be asked to take additional courses on-campus to further develop their capabilities in these areas.

**Field-Based Learning Field Study

A Field Study is typically conducted by a team of two or more students who work closely with a sponsoring organization and a faculty advisor. Projects may involve a product launch, new business development, or research aimed at solving a real-world problem. Sponsoring organizations range from small entrepreneurial ventures to large corporations, from manufacturers to nonprofits. Teams have also developed their business plans.

An Engaging Community

AUL Business School is a community of people engaged in many activities focused on one purpose—developing leaders. Our MBA graduates use the skills they develop here to inspire change and innovation throughout their lives—in business and in other organizations, in their communities, and in society.

Global Reach

AUL reaches across the globe to bring the latest challenges and opportunities of the international marketplace into the classroom. And the students themselves, who come from many Arabic countries greatly enrich the case method approach to learning by bringing their diverse perspectives to bear on class discussions.

2) EMBA Program:

Executive MBA

The Executive MBA (EMBA) is a 2-year program that serves the need for leadership in for-profit and not for-profit organizations. Candidates with at least 3 years of managerial experience, who are looking to enhance their understanding and ability to integrate the business disciplines, advance their managerial skills, and further their leadership effectiveness are best served by our EMBA program. The EMBA program is very similar to that of the regular MBA program with one main difference, that the thesis is not required and is replaced by 2 elective courses.

The EMBA format is conductive to the busy schedule of advancing managers.

EMBA courses are offered in the evening as well. However, we have a special schedule that suits students coming from the Arabic countries. This schedule is based on a 3-days classes per month: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, for 4 months per semester ( a copy of this schedule is enclosed with this brochure). Each EMBA class is kept purposely small and will range between 25-30 students to insure active participation of all class members. The curriculum consists of a 38 credit hour program that includes 24 credit hours of MBA core courses and 14 credit hours of electives.

EMBA Features
  • The EMBA allows business leaders to pursue and attain their MBA degree through an expedited and non-traditional format.
  • EMBA students engage the MBA coursework with peers who have similar management and business leadership experience.
  • Although the EMBA provides an expedited path to earning an MBA, it is not a shortcut. EMBA students who successfully meet the requirements of the MBA program earn a Master of Business Administration degree.
  • A distinguished core of professors from diverse academic and corporate backgrounds delivers the EMBA coursework.
  • Students experience a variety of instructional formats in the classroom as well as coursework outside of the classroom.
  • Participants benefit from networking, team building and other synergies created by progressing through the entire curriculum.
